About the Artist

   Leslie is an oil and acrylic artist living in the Richmond Virginia area.
  She is wife, mother, grandmother and teacher. Her first hint that
  she had some aptitude for painting was when she was a kindergarten
  teacher, working on the set of a play.  This inspired her to take an 
  introductory class on oil painting and she was hooked! Over the years,
  she has grown as an artist through opportunities such as making contributions       
​  to fundraisers, for inspirational props for church activities and retreats, for 
  commissions, and painting just for the pure joy of it! ​

​​"The ​subjects I choose for painting usually come from photos. I
love to bring the image to life on a canvas!  If I am doing a gift 
painting or a commission for a client, I take into  account
​personal  interests and requests. Then I research photos and 
 interests to create a unique design especially for them. 

​As for my process, I begin with a light sketch. After covering the     
canvas with a first layer of shade and hue, the real fun begins. 
Stroke by stroke of color, the detail becomes more intricate. 
​The greatest pleasure in the process for me comes as the final
​layers bring the painting to life."

My belief is that every person is uniquely made with creative talents and abilities. Therefore, every piece of artwork is  unique.  When I lead in a painting workshop, though I begin with the same model of painting to be worked on, each student always produces a work different from all the others in the class. This is a beautiful representation of each person as a wonderful work of art, producing a unique artistic creation!
These family members gathered for a time of sharing and painting over the holidays.
